Project in Gatumba
Training and practice on conservation and regenerative agriculture in Gatumba community
Over 800 smallholder and commercial farmers trained in conservation agriculture, compost making, organic remedies for crop diseases, irrigation and crop rotation.
Gatumba
We teach and train smallholder farmers on sustainable agriculture and sustainability in Burundi, particularly in rural areas, by supporting smallholder farmers' adaptation and resilience to climate change through the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices.
The mission of the organization is to implement life-changing interventions to improve food security and community nutrition, and to sustain livelihoods for smallholder farmers in Burundi through agriculture. Such interventions include, but are not limited to, climate change interventions.
What the training covers
- Crop and vegetable assessment for disease prevention, and how to grow crops for a good yield in a small plot of 16 m × 39 m.
- Designing a Climate Smart Nutrition Garden, which helps smallholder farmers feed their families healthy food.
- Conservation agriculture, climate change, compost making and organic remedies for crop diseases.
- The philosophy of fertilizer application, irrigation and crop rotation.
