What 800 farmers in Gatumba learned about compost and crop disease
A plot of 16 by 39 metres is enough to show what conservation agriculture can do.

In Gatumba, BORA Alliance has trained over 800 smallholder and commercial farmers in conservation and climate-smart agriculture.
The training is practical. Farmers assess their crops and vegetables for disease, then learn how to prevent it. They make compost and organic remedies. They work through the philosophy behind fertilizer application, irrigation and crop rotation, on a demonstration plot of 16 by 39 metres.
Alongside the training, BORA is comparing organic fertilizers with synthetic ones, so that the advice given to farmers rests on evidence gathered in their own conditions.
